Some facts about Rio Olympics 2016

The 2016 Summer Olympics, officially the Games of the XXXI Olympiad and also known as Rio 2016, were an international multi-sport event held from 5 to 21 August 2016 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, with preliminary events in some sports beginning on 3 August.

» Rio 2016 will be the first time in Olympic history that a South American country has hosted the Games. The city won its bid in 2009, beating out Chicago, Madrid and Tokyo.
» The torch relay will begin on April 21 in the Games' birthplace — Olympia in Greece — before traveling across Brazil for more than 90 days and finishing in Rio on August 5.
» Around 10,500 athletes from 206 countries are expected to take part in 17 days of the Olympiad, competing across 306 events.
» Golf and Rugby will be added to the sporting events. Golf will return to the games after 112 years and Rugby after 92 years.
» Thirty-two venues will be spread across 4 regions of the city namely, Deodoro, Marcana, Barra and Copabanna.
» Around 7.5 billion tickets are up for sale for the final event and nearly 3.8 billion are under the price tag of USD 30.
