Bharatiya Gyanpith Awards

Jnanpith Award is the oldest and the highest Indian literary award presented annually by the Bharatiya Jnanpith to an author for their "outstanding contribution towards literature".

» The first Jnanpith Award was given in 1965.
» The Jnanpith Award carries a citation, shawl, srifal, a bronze idol of Vagdevi Saraswati and a cash prize of Rs. 7,00,000
» Out of twenty-three eligible languages, the award has been presented for works in sixteen languages: Hindi, Kannada, Bengali, Malayalam, Gujarati, Marathi, Odia, , Urdu, Telugu, Assamese, Punjabi, Tamil, English, Kashmiri, Konkani, and Sanskrit.
» The Jnanpith Award presented by the Bharatiya Jnanpith a trust found by the Sahu Jain family, the Publishers of the Times of India newspaper.
