The impact of cable T.V.

          The new satellite and the cable T.V. systems have become the important need of the day. In the field of information and technology T.V. has brought about revolution. Since the people desire continuous entertainment, cable T.V. has became a craze among the children, the youth and the old. In the field of information, cable T.V. has brought us closer to the distant part of the world. The revolutionary changes in the field of education, distant education and computer education have come to stay. However, the other side of picture is very discomforting to an average Indian. The introduction of cable Television is considered as cultural invasion of India. Cable T.V. is a highly lucrative business. The owners of channels compete with each other to lure the public. Television Programmes which are beamed in many homes in India are provid-ing much better entertainment to the viewers in comparison to Doordarshan. However, with the arrival of cable T.V. a feeling of potential danger is registered in the minds of the people. Many consider that T.V. is an idiot box and essential evil. The obscenity on the T.V. channels is on the increase. The impressionable children, young men & women learn most of the undesirable things. Uncensored T.V. Programmes are a distant reality. Advertisements on the T.V. have promoted consumer culture to the advantage of the multinationals. No doubt, Television has made man aware of day to day affairs of life. On the other hand it has promoted invasion of Indian culture shattering most of Indian traditions and moral values.
