Do parents really have a choice in the matter of giving donations while getting their children admitted to schools? Frankly enough, the quality of education has declined. The status of a family is known by the name of the school. Admission to an elite school reflects the status of the parents in a shallow society. Ours is a society driven by brands of education and name of a school. This kind of branding has created discrimination in the field of education. In this kind of atmosphere school donations have become a necessary evil. Good institutes exploit their names and status. They construct palatial buildings to lure the students. School business has become such a lucrative business that even the big industry houses have stepped in the field of academic and vocational education. Nobody wants to give donation. But to maintain their status, parents want to admit their children to well known institutions. On the contrary some people think that donations are a one time investment for the future of a child. They do not realize that donation will discourage their child from hard work. A healthy environment in a school cannot be bought nor the quality of education can be improved. A good school will definitely not go in for donation. It is a kind of bribery. Students of mediocre ability will also get admitted on the strength of their financial resources. Then where lies a chance for quality education for a good student? In fact the government should ban donations. In the absence of law the parents have no choice but to pay. How can one bribe for education? Is it not corruption to start child's career with bribe ? Schools are meant to help parents, not to fleece them.
